Geoffrey McLennan Memorial Award for Advances in Interventional Pulmonology

The American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP) is proud to announce the 2025 Geoffrey McLennan Memorial Award for Advances in Interventional Pulmonology. Geoffrey McLennan was a professor and scholar in pulmonary medicine, radiology, and biomedical engineering, and made significant advances in the practice of interventional pulmonology during his career. Dr. McLennan died prematurely, July 27th 2010, leaving behind a devoted family and countless colleagues and students.

In honor and memoriam of Dr. Geoffrey McLennan, the AABIP is accepting nominations for the Geoffrey McLennan Memorial Award for Advances in Interventional Pulmonology. Nominees should be individuals who are in their junior to mid-level careers (Assistant to Associate Professor within 10 years of completing fellowship) and be judged by their peers to have a high likelihood of continued success and contributions in this field. Recipients of the award will receive an invitation to speak at the AABIP Annual Conference in Austin, Texas, August 14-16, 2025.

Eligibility

  • Open to AABIP members who are junior to mid-level physicians, defined as those who are within 10 years of completing their final medical training or fellowship.
  • Must be currently employed in an academic institution or healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a career in academic medicine or research.

AWARD RECIEPTIENT RECEIVES

  • Invitation to present at the 2025 AABIP Annual Conference in Austin, Texas August 14-16, 2025
  • Complimentary registration to the 2025 AABIP Annual Conference, with travel reimbursement up to $1000 and 1-night hotel accommodation at the conference hotel.   

HOW TO SUBMIT A NOMINATION

Individuals must be nominated by an AABIP member in good standing. Self-nominations are not permitted.

All nominations must include:
  1. Letters of recommendation from at least two senior colleagues or mentors (one could be the nominator), specifically addressing both the individual’s accomplishments and their potential for future contribution to their field
  2. Submission of a detailed CV highlighting the nominee's relevant achievements and experiences.
  3. Personal statement from nominee outlining career goals, research interests, and anticipated impact of receiving the award. The nominator may submit the nominee's personal statement along with the other required document, or the nominee may submit their personal statement here. Personal statement must be submitted by January 12, 2025.

Self-nominations will NOT be accepted.

Nominations submitted in 2024 who were not selected for the award, will be considered for 2025.

All nominations must be submitted on or before Sunday, January 12, 2025.
