AABIP Fall Scientific Symposium 2015

Dear Friends:

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend and participate in our AABIP Fall Scientific Symposium 2015 to be held Saturday October 24th 2015 from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM at Courtyard Marriott Montreal Centre-Ville, 380 Rene-Levesque Boulevard West, Montreal, Quebec H2Z 0A6 Canada.

This symposium is designed to be a relaxed exchange of scientific ideas related to the practice of interventional pulmonology. All individuals with an interest are invited to attend and participate.

Format: We will have one invited presentation from an expert in a field relevant to IP research.  The remainder of the time will be dedicated to abstract presentations. There will be approximately 6 abstract presentations. We are inviting anyone with a scientific program or idea to share and present data. Each presentation should be approximately 10-minutes in length, relaxed, collegial, no more than three to five slides, and designed to stimulate thoughts and ideas from the audience. We especially encourage participants to submit research that is considered early phase, risky, or speculative, but we will consider research at any phase except for previously published work. .  Based on feedback from prior Symposia participants, we specifically wish to solicit abstracts from junior investigators. We welcome and encourage a broad spectrum of research interests from basic science to clinical research. The emphasis will be for the audience and presenter to learn from each other and to encourage and to foster potential collaboration. This will not be a session of “canned” talks or didactic lectures. No CME will be offered.

Awards: An award will be presented at the end of the evening for the overall best presentation of novel research by a junior investigator.

Dress Code: You should dress appropriate to the weather in Montreal (evenings are chilly in Quebec). Ties and suits are not expected (but you may wear your Montreal Canadians jerseys). Jeans and sweaters are fine.

Refreshments: Food and beverages will be available.

Registration: Registration is required. For your convenience, registration is online. To register please go to

The printable form should be be filled out, signed, and emailed or faxed to Clarethra Bradford (216-636-3137).

Abstracts: If you would like to present your ideas or data, please follow this link ABSTRACT to the abstract submission form or email a brief abstract (no more than 200 words) to Andrew Haas (Andrew.Haas2@uphs.upenn.edu). On the abstract page, please include your name, your mentor’s name (if applicable), your institution, and your email address. Indicate on the abstract page if you are a new or young investigator. To qualify as a new or young investigator you must be a fellow, resident, or student or within four years of completing your training. If you are considered junior faculty at your institution then you qualify as a new or young investigator.  The deadline for abstract submission is October 10th, 11:59 PM Eastern.

Cost: There will be no cost to the participants. Financing for the awards and the symposium has been in part from generous donations to the AABIP, but largely from the general fund of the AABIP. We would like to continue this practice of having a no cost registration to attendees for as long as possible. With this in mind, please consider a donation to the AABIP. Any amount you can afford will be most appreciated. These funds will be used to support the Symposium, the McLennan Memorial Award, and possibly research grants.
